Last month I had a chance to brave the blazing hot June sun to shoot a video highlighting some of the vendors at the Wedding Hive's first ever Honeypot Shop. It featured work from local Kansas City artists, crafters and designers. The Wedding Hive provides the contemporary minded Kansas City Metro couples a network of local, independent & fine art based wedding vendors.

Vendors taking part in this was emmy-ray, Scarlett Garnet, Genevieve Flynn, Two Tone Press, Dirty Laundry, Donna’s Dress Shop, Dumb Kid Designs, 74 Harley Street, The Olive Tree Boutique, Cinderelish, Tag Team Tompkins, Meadowbelle Market, byMindy, Aunt June and Fresher than Fresh Snow Cones. Music was provided by All Ears Mobile DJ.

Royal Photography Video | Kansas City Wedding Photographer

Awhile back I had the opportunity to produce a video for wedding photographer Samuel Jordan Jr of Royal Photography LLC in Kansas City. When we first discussed putting the video together, I had not idea how it would turn out. This was actually my first time seeing Sam doing what he is most passionate about and that is photography. Unfortunately, when I was searching for a wedding photographer for my own wedding, nearly two years ago, I had not yet met Sam. If I had known him I would have contacted him to be my photographer.

Questions to ask your wedding videographer

So today a friend of mine e-mailed me an article titled What to Ask Your Wedding Videographer from RealSimple.com that gave a list of 10 things you should ask your wedding videographer. To make things a little bit easier for you have I have listed my answers to those questions below. Of course I am quite sure more questions could be asked...but this is a good place to start.

1. What is your video style―cinematic or documentary?
My shooting syle is a combination of both, but I primarily focus on documententing the day. Once I get a chance to learn more about a couple the easier it is to determine what they prefer. At any given time I do not want to take away from the authenticity of your wedding day by pulling you away to setup a staged shot unless that's something you want to do. You will not get a 3 minute shortened version of your ceremony that only shows the most "cinematic" moments. Who am I to judge what is important to you. Your highlight reel will be the only place I cut our portions of your ceremony. This is your wedding day and you should be able to enjoy every part of it.

2. What is your storytelling approach?
Storytelling is what we enjoy doing most of all. When you watch your wedding film it should tell the story of your wedding day as it happened.

3. What type of coverage do you offer?
I personally feel like everyone should have full day coverage of their wedding day so my basic package includes up to 7 hours of coverage. Occassionally I get requests for ceremony only coverage, but I prefer not to do that because the couple is only cheating themselves out of the priceless memories of their reception in the long run.

4. What type of video or film format do you use?
This year I began shooting strictly in high definition so you are assured that you are getting sharp high quality coverage of one of the most important days of your life. The final wedding film is then delivered to you on DVD of your wedding

5. How will the audio (sound) be handled?
I use a wireless microphone on the groom so your vows can be heard clearly; I would never mic a bride as it would take away . Also I use a second microphone to ensure ambient noise is not overlooked, such as laughter or sighs by the attendees. You can be assured you will be heard.

6. What types of cameras/lighting will you use?
Without getting to technical I use one of the latest Sony HDV Camercorders; I just purchased it this past December. My camera works great in low light situations, however if needed I have an on camera light that can be attached. I prefer not to use the light as it can be a little distracting but I want to make sure you have the best video possible.

7. How many other weddings will you be shooting on my wedding day?
I only book one wedding per day, so you know your wedding is my number one priority.

8. Will you coordinate with my photographer?
I always like to introduce myself to the photographer because we have to almost work as a team to make sure we both capture your wedding in our distinct way. I have worked with a lot of photographers in the area, so I am sure to bump into a familiar face.

9. What is your editing process?
I use a non-linear editing system which captures all of your wedding footage into my computer and then I edit. Once the film is edited I create a DVD with a custom menu and chapters.

10. Do you offer HD-ready video?
Yes, your wedding film is HD-ready. :)

Back from Las Vegas Wedding

Ok, so I got back from Las Vegas on Monday, this was my first destination wedding and it was a blast. The wedding was wonderful and I could truly tell the couple were made for each other. Ja'Kyta and Kenny had a long day leading up to the ceremony, but the love filled the chapel. I was honored to be the videographer at their wedding and reception so they will be able to share it with everyone in Kansas City that were unable to make it. There is something about a Vegas wedding...I never knew how many wedding chapels were on Las Vegas Blvd until this trip. I saw so many brides on that Saturday making their way to and from their own weddings.

While my husband I were out there we had a chance to spend some time on the strip, visit Hoover Dam and go see George Wallace at The Flamingo. The comedy show took place after the wedding, so we invited the couple to be our guest at the show. Well because there was not a lot of time between the wedding and the show we ended up getting there late. Of course that was a no no...because soon as we walked into the theater George Wallace called for the four of us to come front and center. Since Ja'Kyta and Kenny told them they had just gotten married he excused us and actually allowed us to sit at his personal guest table right up front (kinda cool). Then he went on with the show. Well by the end of the evening he asked if any singers would like to go up for an Apollo type competition and so Ja'Kyta went up and sang the song that won Jennifer Hudson that Oscar "And I Am Telling You". She blew the roof off the place and even George Wallace was surprised by her performance. So it ended up being an even more memorable day for the couple. Here is the clip I shot on my phone (not the best quality).



I look forward to taking a look at the footage and putting it together. The couple is honeymooning in the Caribbean and I hope they are enjoying themselves.

Stephanie + Nick Wedding

Back in November I had the distinct honor to be the videographer at Stephanie and Nick's wedding. A couple of years ago I worked for the same company as Stephanie so when she called about wedding videography I knew the name sounded familiar. When I met with her and Nick they were excited about their wedding and I knew they were a perfect match. Their wedding was beautiful and everyone seemed to have a great time. At any given time you could look at Stephanie and her smile could light up room. During the cake cutting, Nick seemed to catch Stephanie off guard...you'll have to watch to see what I mean. Here is a highlight of their special day.

As Bluvision Media is expanding into areas outside of weddings we have a new site exclusively for wedding videography which is www.bluvisionweddings.com . By doing so going forward our wedding division will be Bluvision Wedding Films.

Bluvision Wedding Films will offer high definition wedding videography in Kansas City and will also be available for destination weddings. We are heading out west to Las Vegas next week to shoot the first wedding of the year. I am looking forward to seeing the happy couple tie the knot.

Wow, I cannot believe its been a year since I started this blog and this stuff is harder than I thought. With all of the things happening in ones life you can easily forget about updating your blog. My new year's resolution will definitly be to keep you more in tune with Bluvision Media. As Oprah once said "Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right."

As I look back on this year it has been one that I will never forget because of the many changes that occurred in my personal life as well as professionally. Not only did I celebrate my 1yr wedding anniversary but we welcomed our first child into this world 11 days later. Being a mom brings me so much joy. Because of my pregnancy that put a little damper on the prime wedding season but I'M BAAAACK. The look of the website and blog have changed due to the evolution of Bluvision and we are one step closer to introducing a new division (more details to come soon).

So as we look forward to 2010, I am very excited about the changes coming to Bluvision Media and our offerings. I am also looking forward to connecting new people in Kansas City and worldwide. We are all a work in progress, so take a moment today to reflect on what's important in your life as you look to where you want to be.

As you look forward to the new year, Bluvision Media is looking forward to some changes. In 2010 we will introduce high definition video to our services. You will be able to see your wedding or special event crystal clear on your HD televisions or monitors. We will be posting HD videos starting in January.

Earlier this month friends of my husband and I celebrated their one year anniversary. I had the opportunity to be the videographer at their wedding and love was definitely in the air in Winfield, KS. I'm quite sure that after a year they would love to look back at the highlights from that day so I put this short clip together for them.

JoAnna and Hollis - Wedding

The couple did not have a long time to plan the wedding, but you would not have been able to tell. JoAnna was a beautiful bride and Hollis was filled with emotion from the day. Their wedding coordinator was Mary of Mardee's Design and Consulting.

I had the opportunity to photograph Jo Anna and Hollis over Memorial Day Weekend. They will actually be getting married on June 6th and I will have the pleasure to capture the memories of that day as well. So be sure to check back soon to see some photos from their wedding.

One couple's regret from their wedding.

Today I found a video on YouTube that I thought would be interesting to share with couples considering hiring a professional videographer. There are many reason that I could tell you, but hearing it from a couple that did not have a videographer speaks for itself.

Happy New Year...its 2009!

Welcome to BluVision Media's Blog. Since this is a new year we're ready to enter into the wonderful world of blogging. This is really new to me but thought it would be a great place for you to keep up with what BluVision Media is up to.

I think the best way to start off 2009 is by taking a look back at some of the highlights of 2008.

Last year was the start up year for BluVision Media. Although I've been shooting weddings for years it was the first year I stepped out on my own. I didn't do too much early in the year because I was busy planning my own wedding. On August 30th I took that walk down the aisle and married my husband Mario. Below are a few photos I wanted to share with you.














Then I had the opportunity to photograph Kori and Robert's wedding at the end of September. They were a great couple and I really enjoyed being spending the day with them and capturing all the fun.



































In October the highlight of the month was video taping Christy and Charlie's wedding. Their wedding was beautiful and very touching. While shooting I was really drawn into everything the minister was saying...a very nice service. Their daughter was adorable and always had a smile on her face. The best part of the night occurred when Charlie surprised Christy with a Brett Michaels performance. Everyone at the reception really enjoyed the reception...I couldn't stop laughing.

The last wedding of the year was Valorie and Robert and it took place mid-November. When I first met the couple I knew their wedding would be very special. It was a very enjoyable evening and their guest stayed on the dance floor all night.
